About us
A family office built to own and grow businesses for the long term.
Montlake Partners is a combined family office founded by Paul Judy and Todd Owens in Seattle, Washington. After more than two decades of working together across multiple businesses, we formed Montlake to acquire, protect, and grow a diversified group of operating companies — not to buy and sell them, but to be their permanent home.
We are structured as a permanent-capital holding company, backed by our own resources rather than a fund with a fixed life. That lets us hold companies for decades, reinvest patiently, and make decisions based on what is best for the business, its people, and its customers — not what is needed to meet an exit timeline.
We look for well-run, profitable businesses, often from founders and families preparing for a transition. For an owner who has spent a career building something, how the business is passed on matters as much as the price. We protect that legacy by keeping the company’s name, people, and customer relationships intact and building on the foundation the seller created.
What Montlake Partners stands for
- Build and grow — investing patiently to make each business stronger, larger, and more durable over time.
- Protect the legacy — preserving the name, culture, and relationships that made the company worth building.
- Stable, living-wage jobs — providing employees with secure, well-paid work and real opportunity to grow.
- A winning team — the pride and rewards that come from being part of a business built to win.
The partners
Paul Judy
Paul is a builder with a 30-year career spanning wireless, retail, SaaS, and clean energy. He has repeatedly taken on the challenge of scaling businesses that did not yet have a playbook, and finding the operational discipline to make them work at scale.
Most recently, Paul led client delivery at Omnidian, a performance management platform for solar asset owners. Before that, he held executive leadership roles at a leading cloud-based tax compliance company, helping drive growth and integrate multiple acquisitions ahead of its IPO. Earlier, he and Todd served together on the leadership team at TalentWise, scaling it from a regional startup to a market-leading SaaS platform before its exit. Paul holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Washington and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Todd Owens
Todd is one of the Pacific Northwest’s most accomplished technology executives, with a track record of scaling businesses from early-stage concepts to $100M+ in revenue and delivering successful exits across multiple investment cycles. He is also an owner of several small businesses, including Trailer Station USA, Red Bison, and Terra Builders.
Most recently, Todd founded and scaled Kevala, a healthcare scheduling and staffing platform, guiding it through a strategic exit to Residex in 2025. Previously, as CEO of Azuqua, he reversed a revenue decline and led a competitive sale to Okta. As CEO of TalentWise from 2006 to 2015, he grew the company from five people to $100M+ in annual revenue before its exit. Todd is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and Harvard Business School, and began his career as a submarine officer.
